Barr vs Walnut Hosting 100th Anniversary “Crosstown Clash” Football Game October 16th

GRAND ISLAND (Neb.) — The Grand Island “Crosstown Clash” celebrates 100 years of football.
On October 16th, 2025, the Barr Bulldogs and Walnut Wildcats will celebrate their 100th anniversary at the annual football game matchup.
7th and 8th Grade student athletes will take the field of Memorial Stadium at Grand Island Senior High. Meeting on the gridiron for the 100th time for the 100th straight year is seminal as a contribution to a larger moment; a connection to a treasured history for the city of Grand Island.
“The rivalry between Walnut and Barr has always been a spirited one, and it’s something that makes our community unique, our students, staff, and alumni take great pride in it.” Rod Foley, Walnut Principal, said. “I see it as a chance for our students to showcase their pride, their talent, and their teamwork. Rivalries like this push us to be our best, but at the end of the day, it’s about building character, creating memories, and respecting one another while celebrating the traditions that bring us together.”
Since 1925, the Barr Middle School Bulldogs have squared-off against the Walnut Middle School Wildcats on the gridiron each year for friendly competition and hometown pride.
To commemorate the occasion, Barr and Walnut will be hosting a tailgate before the 7th and 8th Grade games at the Memorial Stadium parking lot. The festivities will be packed with celebrations, memories, and more as the Bulldogs and Wildcats battle on the gridiron for the 100th straight year.
The Grand Island community and Barr and Walnut Alumni, Staff, & Families are invited to attend the game, cheer loud, and enjoy the festivities of one of Nebraska Prep's longest-running rivalries.
