CC-C Edged SP-P in State Tourney Baseball

Top Seed Central City-Centura earned a hard fought 6-4 win over eighth seed St.Paul-Palmer in the opening round of the Class C state tourney in Papillion. The Kernels plated an unearned run in the 3rd. Luke Vakiner blasted a solo homer in the fourth for a 2-0 lead.
The Cats came back with three runs in the fifth. Alex Meinecke crushed a two-out three-run triple to give SP-P its first lead. But CC-C responded with three in the bottom of the inning. Mason Gorecki provided a two-run double to give the Kernels the lead for good.
Christian Lemburg went 2-3 for the Cats. Gorecki was 3-4 for the Kernels. Barrett Fries went 2-4. Colbyn Peters picked up the win in relief. Gorecki earned the save. Meinecke took the loss for the Cats.
St. Paul-Palmer takes on Lincoln Christian Monday at 10am. Listen for coverage at 9:45 on 97.3 the Wolf. Central City-Centura meets Fort Calhoun in the winners bracket at 4pm. Class C action shifts to Tal Anderson Field at UNO on Monday after Saturday's games at Fricke Field.
