Central Nebraska Regional Airport to Host Celebration in Honor of Larger CRJ900 Jets

Grand Island, Neb. – Central Nebraska Regional Airport (GRI) will host a celebration in honor of the larger CRJ900 jets now flying out of the airport. Festivities will begin inside the Passenger Terminal at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 with a remark from Executive Director, Mike Olson.

The CRJ900 jet is slated to arrive from Dallas – Ft. Worth International Airport (DFW) at 2:33 p.m. that day, and scheduled for departure at 3:04 p.m.

Due to demand, American Airlines, operated by SkyWest, issued larger jets to service GRI to DFW. Making its debut at GRI mid-August, the upgrade from a CRJ700 to a CRJ900 allows 10 more passengers per flight which includes 12 first-class seats and 63 main cabin seats.

“Over the past six months, we have seen very high load factors that lead to the upgrade to the larger jet,” said Olson.

Allegiant Air flies twice weekly out of Grand Island to Las Vegas (LAS) and Mesa (IWA). American Airlines flies twice daily to Dallas - Ft. Worth (DFW) allowing Grand Island area residents access to almost anywhere in the world from the Central Nebraska Regional Airport.
