Creighton Baseball Shutout in Finale at Samford, 5-0

Creighton Bluejays

Birmingham, Ala. -- Creighton Baseball suffered a 5-0 loss in the series finale with Samford on Sunday, March 30. Although the Bluejays were stymied on Sunday, Creighton returned to Omaha with its sixth consecutive series win.

The loss moved Creighton to 16-7 on the season, while Samford climbed to 14-13 overall.

Creighton's best chance to score came in the second as Nate McHugh opened the frame with a single up the middle. One out later Dakota Duffalo singled through the left side and with two down Nick Venteicher loaded the bags via another single through the left side. The Bluejays, however, were held off the scoreboard.

The Bluejays were held without another hit until the ninth inning when Ben North reached on an infield single.

Samford, meanwhile, scored two in the fourth and three in the fifth. The Bulldogs' first two runs crossed on one hit in the fourth, benefiting from a hit batter and an error. The three-run fifth was helped along by three walks and a hit batter.

Bluejay starter Wilson Magers took the loss (3-2), allowing five runs on six hits and two walks in 4.1 innings. Samford starter Mason Blasche earned the win (3-0), holding Creighton to three hits and one walk in seven innings.
