Creighton Baseball Snags Road Win At San Francisco, 5-2

San Francisco, Calif. -- Five different pitchers combined to hold the San Francisco offense to just five hits as the Creighton Baseball team evened its series with the Dons with a 5-2 win on Saturday, March 15.

The victory moved the Bluejays to 9-5 on the season, while the Dons fell to 10-10.

Creighton took an early lead with a run in the top of the first as Teddy Deters laced a one-out double to left-center, then Will MacLean lined an RBI single to right.

The score remained 1-0 until the top of the sixth as Creighton took control with four runs. The Bluejays got the inning started off quickly as Nolan Sailors singled through the right side, then MacLean and Ben North were hit by pitches to load the bases. Dakota Duffalo drove a two-run single through the left side to make it 3-0, then the Bluejays pushed across two more via an error and a squeeze bunt from Kyle Hess.

San Francisco plated runs in the sixth and ninth innings on a solo home run from Trevor Harmon and an pinch hit RBI single by Eddison Esquivel in the ninth.

Bluejay reliever Shane Curtin came on in the third inning to toss 3.2 innings of scoreless relief as the southpaw earned the win (1-0), allowing just two hits and one walk. San Francisco starter Joe Soberon took the loss (2-2), allowing five runs on five hits in better than five innings of work.

Creighton and San Francisco play the rubber game of their three-game series on Sunday, March 16 with first pitch set for 3:00 p.m.
