Creighton Baseball Wins Big East Tournament

Mason, Ohio -- For the second time in program history, Creighton is on top of the BIG EAST after defeating UConn, 7-4, Saturday night in the BIG EAST Baseball Championship Presented by Jeep at Prasco Park.
The win secured Creighton's sixth regional bid under outgoing head coach Ed Servais and the first since 2019.
Behind the arms of Shea Wendt and Garrett Langrell over the course of the day defensively, the Bluejays opened the game offensively in the top of third with a bang when Dakota Duffalo blasted a shot to left field for an early 1-0 lead.
After UConn evened things up with a home run by Caleb Shpur, the Bluejays jumped back on top after Kyle Hess took a hit by pitch to collect an RBI before Tate Gillen sacrificed to center field to send Will Maclean home for a 3-1 lead Creighton would not look back on.
The Huskies cut the deficit to one after Beau Root hit a solo shot to right center.
The Bluejays added four more over the next three innings, capped by a two RBI double off the bat of Tate Gillen in the bottom of the eighth to put the game out of reach.
Leading Creighton's offense all week long, Connor Capece finished the week 7-for-12 batting with five RBI and two runs score to be named the Jack Kaiser Most Outstanding Player Award.
Creighton locks up the BIG EAST's automatic bid in the NCAA Championship, with the full bracket set to be revealed Monday at Noon ET on ESPN2.
