Creighton Women Fall At #1 UCLA
San Francisco, Calif. -- Falling behind 24-6 in the opening frame proved to be a hill to deep to climb out of as the Creighton Women's Basketball team fell to #1 UCLA 70-41 in the nightcap of the Invisalign Bay Area Women's Classic on Friday, December 20. Following the loss Creighton closed the non-conference season 9-3, while UCLA climbed to 12-0 on the season.
The first quarter struggles saw the Bluejays shoot 1-of-13 in the opening ten minutes, while UCLA went 11-for-22.
Creighton rallied in the second quarter, outscoring the Bruins 19-16. One key difference was the Bluejays work on the glass as Creighton matched UCLA with seven rebounds through the first six minutes of the frame. Junior Kiani Lockett guided the offense in the frame with five points.
Morgan Maly led the Bluejays with 15 points in the loss, while Kennedy Townsend delivered 10 points. UCLA got a game-high 20 points from Kiki Rice and 13 points from Angela Dugalic.
The Bluejays are off for a few days for the holiday break, but return to action in a second consecutive game on national television as Creighton heads to New York to face St. John's on December 28 at 12:30 pm (CT) on Fox.
