Omaha, Neb. -- Trailing 48-46 late in the third quarter, the Bluejay women's basketball team used a 15-2 run over the next six minutes to take control as Creighton defeated Wyoming 76-60 on Tuesday, December 17.

The win was Creighton's eighth consecutive victory, pushing the Bluejays to 9-2 on the season. The loss dropped the Cowgirls to 5-6 overall.

Trailing 6-2 early in the opening quarter (8:05), Creighton went on a 12-0 run behind four consecutive three-pointers to lead 14-6 (4:05). Senior Morgan Maly connected on the first two, followed by treys from seniors Jayme Horan and Brooke Littrell. The Bluejays went on to push their lead to 25-15 by the close of the frame, getting 10 points from Maly and forcing six Cowgirl turnovers.

Wyoming tightened up its defense in the second quarter, limiting the Bluejays to seven points in the first seven minutes of the frame. Holding a tenuous 32-28 lead (3:10), Horan provided a lift to her squad. The Bluejay surge began with a defensive stop of Wyoming center Allyson Fertig by Horan and Maly, on the offensive end Horan connected from the top of the key, then splashed another three-ball moments later. The Cowgirls, however, refused to be denied as Wyoming clawed within three at 38-35 at the half.

The second quarter shooting struggles (4-for-15) continued through much of the third, but Creighton's defense kept the Bluejays in contention. Down for the first time since the opening moments at 48-46 (2:51), the Bluejays scored the final five points of the period as Maly delivered two in the post and junior Kiani Lockett drained a trey in the final minute to give Creighton a 51-48 lead moving into the fourth quarter.

Maly went back into the paint for two more to open the fourth, then Horan connected for her fifth long distance call to give Creighton a 56-48 lead. After a Wyoming bucket ended Creighton surge at 10 straight, Maly countered with five more on her own to push the Bluejays' lead to 61-50 with 7:46 remaining. Later in the frame Creighton pushed its lead to 14 on Horan's sixth trifecta (70-56) with under four minutes remaining and coasted for the double-digit win.

Maly led all scorers with 29 points, while Horan delivered a career-high 18 points from beyond the arc. Wyoming got 23 points from Fertig as well 16 points from Tess Barnes as well as Malene Pedersen.

The Bluejays head back out on the road as Creighton faces #1 UCLA in a neutral site game on Friday, December 20 at 10:00 p.m., playing in the night game of the Invisalign Bay Area Women's Classic at the Chase Center in San Francisco, Calif.
