Creighton Women's Basketball Crushes Seton Hall; Will Play For BIG EAST TItle

UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- No. 23 Creighton scored the first seven points of the game and never trailed in a 73-44 win over Seton Hall in semifinal round action of the BIG EAST Tournament Presented by JEEP on Sunday, March 9. The victory earns Creighton a shot at its first BIG EAST Tournament title, as the Bluejays will meet No. 3 Connecticut on Monday night at 6 p.m. Central on FS1.

Creighton (26-5) made its first five three-point attempts and led 23-6 after one quarter. That margin grew to as large as 29-6 before Seton Hall answered with an 11-0 run that helped trim the Bluejay lead to 33-22 by halftime.

Creighton thwarted any hopes of a second straight Seton Hall comeback win by starting the third quarter with eight of the first 12 points as the Pirates never got any closer than nine points in the game's final 36 minutes.

The Bluejays began the fourth quarter with a 19-4 surge to lead by as much as 69-39.

Lauren Jensen led CU with 19 points to move up to third on CU's all-time scoring list with 2,029 points. Teammate Morgan Maly, who ranks second on that same list with 2,042 points, added 14 points before both women checked out with 5:46 to play. CU made 12-of-23 three-point shots and shot 52.7 percent from the field overall.

Faith Masonius led Seton Hall (22-9) with 16 points. The Pirates shot jsut 27.8 percent from the floor and were 3-of-18 from downtown.

Connecticut (30-3) advanced to its 21st consecutive conference tournament title game with an 82-54 win over fifth-seeded Villanova in the first semifinal, improving to 35-0 all-time in conference tournament play at Mohegan Sun Arena. The Huskies beat Creighton 72-61 in Omaha on Jan. 25 and 72-53 in Hartford on Feb. 27th.
