Crete BB Sweeps Aurora

Crete took a pair from Aurora in high school basketball on Thursday.

The Cardinals won the girls' game 57-36. Crete scored 16 in a row after Aurora grabbed an early 4-3 lead. The Huskies missed 15 shots in a row during that span. Aurora cut the deficit to 10 by half. Trailing 32-19, the Huskies scored nine in a row to get to within four. But Crete responded with 13 in a row to take command.

The Crete boys avenged a loss suffered in the title game of the Central Conference tournament 44-43. A see-saw battle saw Aurora take a 27-18 at the half. The Cardinals opened the second half on 17-1 run to go up by seven. Aurora didn't have a field goal in the third quarter. Aurora rallied to take a 38-37 lead in the fourth. But Crete scored five in a row and never trailed again. The Huskies had two shots in the finals 10 seconds to win, but saw their 13 game winning streak come to an end.

The regular season is over for the Aurora girls. The Aurora boys host traditional power Omaha Skutt on Thursday.  Next coverage of the Huskies will be in Class B sub-district competition on 97.3 the Wolf.
