GI Home Federal Wins Two At Creighton Prep Tournament
(Omaha, NE) - The Grand Island Home Federal baseball team extended its winning streak to six games on Wednesday, defeating Watertown, SD, 9-0, and defeating Fremont, 8-0.
In the first game of the day, Grand Island would have 9 runs, 11 hits, and 3 errors in the contest. Watertown would be held scoreless and have only two hits in the game, along with 1 error. Ian Arends, Trent Verplank, and Sam Dinkelman would each have 2 hits and 1 RBI. Gavin Ruether would have 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Gage Gannon would chip in on the offense with 1 hit and 1 RBI. Gabe Ruiz would get the win on the mound, going 7 innings on 96 pitches, giving up only 2 hits, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
In the game two win over Fremont, only going five innings, GI would get 8 runs, 12 hits, and 1 error. Fremont would have no runs, 4 hits, and 2 errors. Ian Arends, Broxton Barrientos, Gabe Ruiz, and Trent Verplank would each have two hits in the contest. One hit a piece on the boxscore came from Sam Dinkelman, Gage Gannon, Gavin Ruether, and Miles Nelson. On the hill, Carson Rust would get the win, going five innings, giving up 4 hits, no runs, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts.
GI is now 9-8 on the season and will next play Prior Lake, Minnesota, on Thursday, June 19th at 9:30 am. After Thursday, GI will get a 9:30 am game with the Rocky Mountain Dirtbags at 9:30 am on Friday, June 20th.
