Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Police Department is partnering once again with the Nebraska Department of Transportation Office of Highway Safety to promote the life-saving importance of seatbelt use as part of the national “Click It or Ticket” campaign.

The enforcement mobilization will run from Monday, May 12 through Sunday, June 1. Seatbelt usage remains the single most effective way to reduce injuries and save lives in automobile crashes. This campaign underscores the message that seatbelts save lives—and that failing to buckle up can lead to serious consequences, including injury, death or a citation.

To support this effort, the Grand Island Police Department has been awarded an $11,534.58 grant that will allow officers to dedicate approximately 145 hours of targeted overtime patrols focused on enforcing seatbelt laws and educating the public on roadway safety.

The Grand Island Police Department urges all drivers and passengers to wear their seatbelts—every trip, every time. More on the campaign can be found here: https://www.nhtsa.gov/campaign/click-it-or-ticket
