GIPD Responds To Report Of Grenade Thursday Night

(Grand Island, NE) - Just after 5:00 pm on Thursday, August 7th, Grand Island Police received a call for what the person who made the 911 call thought was a grenade lying next to the curb on 1st Street just to the east of Plum Street.
As GIPD arrived, one of the officers with prior military experience upon visual of the grenade had reported that it looked like a fragmentation grenade.
Grand Island Police then called in the Nebraska State Patrol to assist with the situation. Until NSP's arrival, GIPD was able to get pictures up close to the device with a drone and a tactical robot.
After the State Patrol had arrived and the area had been blocked off for about three hours, it was deemed that the grenade was a replica.
