GIPD to Visit National Night Out Block Parties on August 5

Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Police Department is proud to once again take part in National Night Out, which is a nationwide event designed to strengthen police-community partnerships and promote neighborhood camaraderie.

This year’s event will be held on Tuesday, August 5. GIPD officers will be hitting the streets to visit neighborhood block parties throughout the community. You can sign you block party up online at www.gipolice.org/nationalnightout. Early sign-ups are encouraged as space is limited.

National Night Out is more than a fun summer tradition — it’s a powerful reminder of what can happen when neighbors look out for each other. First launched in 1984, the event encourages residents to come together in a show of unity and pride, sending a strong message that Grand Island stands united against crime and committed to safe, connected neighborhoods.

“The best crime prevention tool we have is a community that knows one another, trusts one another and takes pride in where they live,” said GIPD Police Chief Kevin Denney. “National Night Out gives us a chance to celebrate those relationships and connect with residents in a meaningful and relaxed setting.”

Whether you're hosting a cookout, organizing games for the kids or simply gathering on your front lawn with neighbors, the Grand Island Police Department wants to be part of the fun. Officers will be making their rounds throughout the evening, greeting residents, handing out swag and taking time to listen and engage.
