GISH Baseball Hangs On At Lincoln SW, 4-3


(Lincoln, NE) - The Grand Island Senior High baseball team picked up its 16th win of the season on Thursday night, defeating Lincoln Southwest by a final score of 4-3. 

It was the second meeting of the season between the Islanders and the Silverhawks as GI lost to LSW in the Heartland Athletic Conference semi-finals 13-2 on April 16th. 

GI would get on the board early in the game as Gage Gannon would deliver a 2-RBI double in the top of the 1st. Grand Island would then extend their lead with two more runs in the third as GI would get RBI doubles by Sam Schroeder and Gage Gannon. 

Lincoln Southwest would get one run across in the bottom of the 4th to make 4-1. The Silverhawks would scratch 2 runs around in the bottom of the 7th but would leave the game-tying run stranded at 3rd base. 

Gabe Ruiz earned the win on the mound for the Islanders, going 6 1/3 innings with 102 pitches, giving up 7 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks, and 1 strikeout. Sam Dinkelman would come in for the final two outs to secure the win for the Islanders. 

Grand Island is now 16-6 on the season and will be back on the road Saturday, May 3rd, traveling east to take on Elkhorn North and Gretna East. GI will then travel to Columbus for their regular season finale on Monday, May 5th, to take on the Discoverers. Listen to Monday's game at 4:15 pm on KRGI 1430/105.5 & krgi.com.
