Grand Island Baseball Falls In HAC Semis

(Lincoln, NE) - The Grand Island baseball team fell to Lincoln Southwest on Wednesday, 13-2, in the Heartland Athletic Conference tournament semi-finals.
The long ball for the Silverhawks was able to create the distance between the two teams as Lincoln Southwest hit four home runs and scored nine runs in the final two innings. The Silverhawks had 13 runs on 15 hits and 1 error in the game.
Grand Island would have 2 runs on six hits and would have 4 errors in the game. The Islanders lone two runs would come in the bottom of the fifth inning. GI would only trail 4-2, but then the flood gates would open as Southwest would score five runs in the top of the sixth and four more runs would come around to score in the top of the seventh inning.
Lincoln East would win its third straight HAC tournament championship. The Spartans would defeat Kearney 9-5 and then take down Southwest in the championship game 6-1.
Grand Island is now 8-5 on the season and will next be in action on Friday, April 18th, traveling to North Platte to play the Bulldogs in a doubleheader. GI will then travel to Hastings to battle the Tigers on Monday, April 21st. Listen to the Islanders vs the Tigers on KRGI 1430/105.5 & krgi.com.
