GRAND ISLAND - Charges were dropped against a Grand Island man after his involvement in a fight with students.

Michael Brown was released from the Hall County Corrections at 9:22 a.m. on Tuesday after charges were dropped. He was initially charged with child abuse.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, officers responded to a physical disturbance involving an adult male and juveniles. During the investigation it was found that while Brown was driving his vehicle near the protest, he began yelling pro-ICE comments at the group. A juvenile threw a water bottle at Brown, which struck him in the face while he was driving. Brown then exited his personal vehicle and approached a group of Grand Island Senior High kids protesting on the sidewalk. The investigation found that Brown physically assaulted one of the juveniles, causing injury.

Grand Island Public Schools Superintendent Matt Fisher said approximately 150 students participated in walkout protesting ICE-related activities. The walkout started at 1:25 p.m. Feb. 16, with students walking away from campus.
