Home Federal Handles Kearney Again

For the fifth time in six tries, Grand Island Home Federal took care of Kearney in American Legion baseball. Saturday's confrontation was the biggest as Home Fed beat Misko Sports 10-3 in the opening round of the National Division American Legion Saturday tournament.
Grand Island scored the first five innings. Four in the fourth and three in the fifth eliminated the drama. Brock Cushing worked into the seventh for his team leading sixth win. Ethan Cosler recorded the final three outs.
Every Home Federal player had at least one hit. Ian Arends was 2-3 with a triple, an RBI, and three runs scored. Sam Dinkelman went 2-3, doubled and knocked in two. Cosler and Gabe Ruiz each homered.
Grand Island plays Creighton Prep, a 2-1 winner over Lincoln East. That game begins at 7pm Sunday with pregame at 6:45 on AM 1430 KRGI/105.5 FM.
Griffin Novacek had another big day for Kearney, doubling twice and knocking in two as part of a 4-4 day. He's now 10-16 with three homers and five doubles in the six games against Home Federal. Kearney plays a 10am elimination game against Lincoln East.
