Huskers Sweep Series Against Michigan

Huskers Clinch Series Against Michigan (Game One) 

The No. 10 Nebraska softball team downed the Michigan Wolverines, 8-4, on Sunday afternoon at Bowlin Stadium to move to 20-5 on the season and 2-0 in the Big Ten.

Hannah Camenzind led the Big Red with three RBI and two hits on the day. Jordy Frahm, Samantha Bland and Ava Kuszak each logged an RBI and Frahm and Kuszak each knocked a home run. Hannah Coor contributed a double.

Frahm (7-3) grabbed the win in the circle after tossing 4.2 innings with two runs and seven strikeouts. Kylee Magee started for the Huskers and went 2.1 innings with two runs and two strikeouts.

Michigan homered in the top of the first to take a quick 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, Coor doubled and Caneda knocked a two-run shot to give the Big Red a 2-1 edge.

UM added a run in the top of the third on an RBI double, but the Huskers took the lead back at 3-2 when Frahm singled and an H. Camenzind RBI hit sent her across the plate.

Frahm and Kuszak both hit solo homers in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to 5-2.

Michigan added two runs in the top of the sixth on a two-RBI single.

The Huskers sealed the win in the bottom of the sixth, as Kacie Hoffmann singled, Caneda reached on a fielder’s choice, L. Camenzind singled and Frahm walked to load the bases. Bland walked in a run and H. Camenzind singled to score the other two and make the score 8-4.

Huskers Sweep Michigan in Big Ten Opening Series (Game Two) 

The No. 10 Nebraska softball team defeated the Michigan Wolverines, 5-2, on Saturday evening at Bowlin Stadium to clinch an undefeated weekend and start Big Ten play 3-0. With the win, NU moved to 21-5 on the season.

Katelyn Caneda led the offense with a two-run homer, while Samantha Bland, Hannah Camenzind and Ava Kuszak added an RBI apiece. Alexis Jensen went 2-for-3 at the plate. 

H. Camenzind (5-0) grabbed the win in the circle after tossing four scoreless innings with three hits and three strikeouts. Jensen earned a save, her first of the season, as she threw the final three innings and allowed two runs with four hits and four strikeouts. 

Both teams went scoreless for the first three innings before a Kuszak homer in the bottom of the fourth broke the scoring drought and gave NU a 1-0 lead.

Michigan took a 2-1 lead with a two-RBI single in the top of the fifth, but NU struck back and took a 3-2 lead after the bottom of the inning. Jensen opened the inning with a single and Kennadi Williams pinch ran for her, and Kacie Hoffmann was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. A Caneda sac bunt advanced the two and Frahm was intentionally walked to load the bases. Bland singled and Williams crossed the plate and H. Camenzind drew a walk to score Dakota Carter, who pinch ran for Hoffmann. 

The Big Red extended the lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth on Caneda’s two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth. 

The Huskers are set to head to East Lansing, Mich., to take on the Michigan State Spartans next weekend. Game one on Friday, March 20, will start at 4 p.m. and will be streamed on B1G+. The game can also be heard across the Huskers Radio Network
