Nebraska will open its 2025 football season in one of the most recognizable stadiums in the United States, when the Huskers face the Cincinnati Bearcats at Geha Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

Nebraska, Cincinnati and the Kansas City Chiefs announced the venue change for the 2025 opener on Monday, with the Huskers and Bearcats now scheduled to meet in Kansas City on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025. The kickoff time and television network will be determined during the Big 12’s television selection process in the spring.

The NU-Cincinnati contest is the Bearcats’ home game and was originally set for the UC campus. It was subsequently moved to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis before the most recent location change to Kansas City.

Nebraska and Cincinnati also announced they have changed the date of a previously scheduled matchup at Memorial Stadium. The teams will now meet in Lincoln on Sept. 10, 2033, after previously being scheduled to play in the 2032 season.

Nebraska Director of Athletics Troy Dannen said the move of the game to Kansas City is a perfect fit for the Huskers’ season opener.

“We are pleased to partner with the University of Cincinnati and the Kansas City Chiefs to bring our 2025 season-opening matchup to Arrowhead Stadium,” Dannen said. “Since arriving at Nebraska, one constant message I have heard from our fans is they miss having road football games that are within driving distance. This game offers an excellent opportunity for our great fan base to make a short trip to watch the Huskers open the season and enjoy Labor Day weekend in Kansas City.”

Arrowhead Stadium has been considered one of the top stadiums in the National Football League for many years and its capacity of 76,416 is one of the largest in the league. Arrowhead has hosted numerous college football games, including four Big 12 Championship games. Nebraska last played at Arrowhead in the 2006 Big 12 Championship Game against Oklahoma and played a regular-season game against Oklahoma State in Kansas City in 1998.

Tickets for the Nebraska-Cincinnati contest will go on sale this week. All tickets will be sold online at www.chiefs.com/tickets/ and www.ticketmaster.com. No tickets will be sold through the Nebraska Athletic Ticket Office.

Nebraska and Cincinnati season ticket holders will receive the first opportunity to purchase tickets, beginning on Tuesday, at 9 a.m. A public on-sale for tickets will begin on Wednesday at 10 a.m.   More details on ticket information will be communicated to Nebraska season ticket holders today in advance of the Tuesday pre-sale.
