LB 1072, the Second Budget Bill Advances at the Unicameral
LB 1072, a bill that sweeps several cash funds to help balance the state's budget, advanced at the Nebraska Legislature on Wednesday.
The bill, introduced by the Speaker at the request of the Governor, is part of the Governor's 2026 mid-biennium budget adjustment recommendations for the 2025-2027 Biennium. The bill authorizes and provides for fund transfers, changes certain fund transfer provisions, creates cash funds, and provides for statutory changes to support proposed reductions in spending and appropriation.
Several amendments were defeated as debate progressed. AM2554 would have stopped the sweep of the Nebraska Educational Land Trust Funds. Grand Island Senator Dan Quick spoke in favor the amendment which was defeated 30-14.
FA1049, which would have struck the sweep of the Homeless Shelter Fund, was defeated 18-14. Quick weighed in on that amendment.
