LB 60 Advances at the Nebraska Legislature

Dan Quick

LB 60, introduced by District 35 state senator Dan Quick of Grand Island, would allow for the sale of lottery tickets via vending machines at approved Nebraska Lottery retailers.  It makes a simple change to the language in the State Lottery Act to authorize lottery vending machines; in section 9-829.
Of the forty-five states with lotteries, Nebraska is one of two that does not offer vending.

The change will help retailers who are dealing with staffing issues and working to respond to customers' demand for increasingly convenient means of transacting business. In addition, the change will help secure lottery beneficiary proceeds over time.

The bill is expected to increase lottery proceeds by over 500 thousand dollars for the 26-27 fiscal year. After 15 minutes of debate, LB 60 advanced to enrollment and review on a 32-10 vote.
