Local Author Steve Werkmeister to Visit Grand Island Public Library

Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Public Library is proud to welcome author and Grand Island native Steve Werkmeister for a special author talk on Thursday, July 24 from 4 - 5:30 p.m.

A 1985 graduate of Grand Island Community College, Werkmeister has carved out a respected literary career since his early days on the “mean streets of east GI.” He went on to earn degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and currently serves as an English professor in the Kansas City metropolitan area. He resides in Lawrence, Kansas, with his family.

Werkmeister’s work has been recognized with a Pushcart Prize nomination, and he continues to write actively, maintaining two blogs—one focused on literature (https://stevesofgrass.wordpress.com) and another highlighting his creative writing (https://sw1028.wordpress.com).

During his visit, Werkmeister will discuss his writing journey, share insights into his creative process and reflect on the literary influences that have shaped his work. This event is a unique opportunity for the community to connect with a local author who has achieved literary success beyond Grand Island.

The event is free and open to the public, and attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about his journey from Grand Island to the broader literary landscape.
