Northwest Basketball Splits At Aurora


(Aurora, NE) - The Northwest basketball teams had a short road trip down Hwy 34 on Saturday traveling to rival Aurora to take on the Huskies. The Northwest girls would claim a 44-17 victory. The Vikings led from start to finish playing excellent defense only giving up 10 points in the fourth quarter after not allowing Aurora to score in the third quarter. The Northwest girls would go 2-0 on the weekend as they would defeat Lexington Friday night with a score of 63-15. Aurora girls fell at York Friday night 42-28. 

The boys game would be a classic rivalry battle between both squads as Aurora would prevail 53-46. Aurora would have a 25-18 lead at the half as the Huskies would get 18 points from senior Booker Sheierman as he would hit five three-pointers. The Northwest defense would not allow Sheierman to score from the field in the second half as the Vikings would come out to start the second half on an 11-0 run to take a 29-25 lead with 5:15 left in the 3rd quarter. The Vikings would have a 33-31 lead going to the fourth quarter. The Huskies would get 13 fourth-quarter points from Ryan Staehr as Aurora would outscore Northwest in the final quarter 22-13. Northwest goes 1-1 on the weekend as the Viking boys defeated Lexington on Friday night 70-27. Aurora boys defeated York on Friday night 52-45.
