Northwest Soccer Splits With Scottsbluff Saturday

(Grand Island, NE) - Battling the mist & windy conditions at Viking Field, Saturday morning into the afternoon saw the Northwest soccer teams host the Scottsbluff Bearcats.
The Bearcasts would claim the boys matchup by a final score of 3-2 in a shootout. Scottsbluff would take an early lead almost five minutes into the match with a goal from Davian Pavia. Northwest would score with 20 minutes remaining in the half as Keith DeLaet would knock in a goal to tie the match at 1-1. Two minutes later, DeLaet would sneak in another goal off his head to give Northwest a 2-1 advantage as which would hold going into the halftime break. Nearly three minutes into the second half Juan Zepeda Jiminez would tie the match at 2-2. Things would go scoreless the rest of the 2nd half and force the two overtime periods. Both teams still could not find the back of the net, forcing a shootout. The Bearcats would win the match on PK kicks, outscoring Northwest 4-3. The Vikings fall to 1-3 on the season. The three losses for Northwest have all come to shootouts.
In the girls' match, Northwest would run away from the Bearcats 6-1. The Vikings would get two goals apiece from seniors Evie Keller, Anna Keller, and Lupe Sanchez. The Vikings would lead 5-0 at the end of the first half. Evie Keller would score nearly 17 minutes into the match to give Northwest a 1-0 lead. With almost 16 minutes remaining, Anna Keller would knock in a goal to give the Vikings a 2-0 advantage. Evie Keller would answer again 3 minutes later for her 2nd goal of the match, giving the black and gold a commanding 3-0 lead. Lupe Sanchez would get into the mix with a goal, adding to the scoring barrage, 4-0. With almost 6 minutes remaining, Lupe Sanchez would can a PK kick for her second goal of the match to make it 5-0. With 22:12 remaining in the 2nd half, Anna Keller would get her second goal to make it 6-0. Scottsbluff would get their lone goal of the match with 11:42 remaining in the 2nd half. Northwest girls are now 4-0 on the season.
Both Viking teams will be back in action on Tuesday, April 1st at Aurora. After Tuesday, Thursday, the Vikings head to York followed by a trip together to Lexington on April 10th. The Northwest girls will host Elkhorn on April 8th.
