Northwest Soccer Takes Two From Lakeview

(Grand Island, NE) - The Northwest soccer teams picked up home wins on Thursday night as the Vikings hosted the Lakeview Vikings.
In the boys' match, Northwest won 5-1. The Vikings would get on the board firs,t less than two minutes into the match, as Ryker Sturgill would send a cross into Xavier Corona, who would finish to make it 1-0 Northwest. In the first half Northwest would also get a long ball from Khale Lindiman into Connor Haney to finish with the goal to make it 2-0. Xavier Corona would get a quick touch in front of goal off a pass from Martin Aguilera to make it 3-0. Northwest would get called for a handball in the penalty box that would set up a PK kick that would knock in for a Lakveiw goal to make it 3-1, which would be the halftime score. Northwest would get two more goals in the second half. Hector Bonilla slots it across to Eduardo Villasenor to make it 4-1, and then the fifth goal of the match for Northwest would come from Hector Bonilla cross in spills into the back of the net with Xavier Corona getting the last touch before a deflection off a Lakeview defender. Coming off back to back 2-1 shootout losses to open the season, Northwest is now 1-2.
In the girls matchup, Northwest would roll to an 8-0 victory. The Vikings controlled the match from start to finish to move to 3-0 on the season. Evie Keller would finish the match with three goals. The other five single goal scorers in the match for Northwest included Leah Carlson, Evelyn Poland, Anna Keller, Lupe Sanchez, and Hayden Manivong. So far this week, the Northwest girls have outscored their opponents, Kearney Catholic and Lakeview, 14-0.
Both Viking squads will be back in action on Saturday, March 29th. The matches have been moved up due to expected spring wet weather to impact play. The boys' match will start at 9:00 am with the girls' matchup to start at approximately 11:00 am.
