Northwest Softball Punches Ticket To State

(Grand Island, NE) - The Northwest softball team is headed back to the state tournament for the sixth straight year with two wins Friday over Ashland Greenwood in the B1 district final round. The Vikings would take the best two out of three series with a game one win 8-0, and in game two win 18-3.
The longball would be key all day for Northwest. Abby Dinkelman would hit two home runs in the first game. Then in game two, Northwest would get home runs from Abby Dinkelman, Becca Dinkelman, Laidken Dorsey, and Libby Loman.
In game one, Graclyn Simmons would pitch five innings with 13 strikeouts. In game two, Libby Loman would start in the circle, going three innings, giving up four hits and three runs. Simmons would pitch the last three innings, giving up two hits and would have five strikeouts.
Northwest is now 26-2 on the season and will now take part in the NSAA Class B state softball tournament starting on Wednesday, October 15th. First round games start at 11:30 am from the Bill Smith Softball Complex in Hastings. An opponent has yet to be announced along with brackets.
