Northwest Softball Races Past Kearney Catholic, 17-2

(Kearney, NE) - The Northwest softball team won its 8th game in a row on Monday night, defeating Kearney Catholic for the second time this season by a final score of 17-2.
Northwest defeated Kearney Catholic on Saturday, September 6th, in the first game of the Kearney Tournament, 17-0.
On Monday night, Northwest struck right out of the gate,s scoring six runs in the top of the first inning. Sadie Cemper and Lauren Jones would each have 2 RBI singles. Kearney Catholic would then answer in the bottom of the first with two runs, scoring one on a wild pitch and another on a solo home run by Avery Cast.
The Vikings would bring around three more runs in the top of the third. Laiken Dorsey would get a 2 RBI double, and another run would score on a wild pitch. The black and gold would then blow the game open with eight runs in the top of the fourth inning. Jolie O'Hara and Becca Dinkelman would each have an RBI single. Libby Loman would chime in with an RBI double. Abby Dinkelman would clear the bases with a 3 RBI triple.
Libby Loman would get the win in the circle for the Vikings, pitching all four innings, giving up four hits, 2 runs, would have 2 walks, and five strikeouts in the game on 71 pitches.
Kearney Catholic drops to 10-2 on the season, both losses to Northwest, and will be back in action Tuesday, September 9th at McCook. Northwest is 10-2 on the season and will be back in action Thursday, September 11th at GICC. First pitch is set for 6:30 pm on KRGI 1430/105.5 & krgi.com.
