Republican State Treasurer Joey Spellerberg Officially Files Candidacy

LINCOLN, Neb. – Republican State Treasurer Joey Spellerberg officially filed his candidacy for State Treasurer. Spellerberg served as the Mayor of Fremont from 2020 until his appointment to State Treasurer in November 2025.

“Serving as State Treasurer for the great state of Nebraska is one of the greatest honors,” said Spellerberg. “Since taking office, our office has strived to invest Nebraskans’ tax dollars responsibly, increase transparency in state spending, return unclaimed property, and lead with fiscal conservative values. I’m looking forward to continuing to meet Nebraskans, sharing our vision for fiscal conservatism, and earning their support and vote.”

Joey Spellerberg was born and raised in Fremont. After graduating from college, he returned home to run the family business, Moostah Joe Tours, growing it into one of the region’s premier tour operators.

In 2020, Joey was elected to serve as Mayor of Fremont, one of the youngest mayors in Nebraska state history. As Mayor, Joey cut the city’s property tax levy by over twenty-five percent, made public safety one of his administration’s first priorities, and grew the city’s economy by attracting new businesses and creating jobs.

Joey and his wife, Ashley, are raising their four children in Fremont.
