Saturday Hoops - GICC Basketball Defeats Doniphan Trumbull


(Grand Island, NE) - The GICC basketball teams would snag two more wins on Saturday evening. The GICC girls would hit a school record 14 three-pointers in route to a 60-34 win. The Crusaders would surpass the previous school record for three-pointers in a game of 12. GICC would tie the record last year. Maggie Herbek would have six three-pointers in the game to lead the charge for GICC as the senior would finish with 24 points. Anna Tibbetts would have 13 points, Jacie Palik 8 points, and Bryndal Moody would have 15 points. GICC is now 6-5 on the season. The Crusaders picked up a win Friday night at Kearney Catholic 60-40. 

Game two Saturday night at Crusader Gym saw the GICC boys downing Doniphan Trumbull 58-45. The contest definitely had a post-season-type feel to it. GICC would control the first half going into halftime with a 35-16 lead. Doniphan Trumbull would rally to trail 43-30 at the end of the third quarter. With 3:10 left in the game DT would have the deficit down to five, 50-45. The Crusaders would not let the Cardinals score the rest of the game as GICC would finish the game on an 8-0 run. Sophomore Braylon Wolfe would lead the charge with 24 points. Thomas Liban would have 18 points. Thomas Birch 11 points. Kyle Kelly 3 points. Connor Haney would have 2 points. GICC has now won eight games in a row to move their record to 10-2 on the season.
