Two Wins! Northwest Girls & Boys Soccer Defeats York

(York, NE) - Thursday night action for the Northwest soccer teams saw the Vikings defeat the Dukes of York. In the girls' contest, Northwest won 4-1. The boys claimed a 2-1 win. 

In the girls' match, Northwest would get goals from Taylor Brown, finishing on a loose ball in the box for the Vikings to take a 1-0 lead. Evie Keller would then pass a ball to Evelyn Poland, who would launch from 40 yards away, that would land in goal, getting over the keeper to give Northwest a 2-0 lead. Lupe Sanchez would connect on a low liner in the corner, making it 3-0. Katie Steffen also would tack on a goal for Northwest. The Vikings are now 6-0 on the season. The Viking girls soccer squad is back in action on Tuesday, April 8th, hosting Elkhorn (0-3). 

In the boys' matchup, all of the scoring came in the 2nd half as the two squads were scoreless through the first 40 minutes. The Vikings would take a lead of 1-0 on a Xavier Corona penalty kick. York would then tie the match at 1-1. Northwest would then take the lead for good, as Evan Wiles would get a half-field free kick to knock it in the top corner to give Northwest a 2-1 advantage. The Vikings even out their record now at 3-3. Next action for the Viking boys will be Thursday, April 10th at Lexington (6-1).
