Wildcats/Bison Split Doubleheader; Boys Tie School Record
A busy week for the St. Paul Wildcat Basketball teams as they play 3 games in 7 days starting with a trip to Central City to take on the Lou Platte Conference Rival Bison.
On the Girl's side of things, Kevin Brandt's crew had their hands full as Central City came into Tuesday's contest looking to get back into the win column following a loss to Malcolm at the Girls Showcase on Saturday in Kearney. The Bison stampeded off to an early 25-6 lead paced by Journi Schindler and Hope Paup. The Cats were able to slow the Bison down in the 2nd quarter but Central City still won the quarter 10-5 to take a 35-11 lead at Half. The Bison took the 2nd half 28-14 enroute to the 63-25 victory.
St. Paul (4-10) drops their 5th straight contest with the loss. Addi Platek takes home Runza MVP honors while Aubree Fitzgerald takes the Dugout Grill Dang Good Play of the game.
On the Boy's side, both teams entered the night with a record of 4-8 looking to get back in the win column on a pair of losing streaks. St. Paul roared off to an early lead behind Beau Paro and Jackson Wegner taking an early 26-10 lead. The Senior/Sophomore combo combined for 35 points in the first half while the Cats maintained a 40-21 lead at the break. 3 Point shooting was a hot topic for the Black and Gold as Paro, Wegner, Zandyn Weller, and Max Meyer combined for 16 3's in a game to tie the school record set back in 2019-2020. as St. Paul gets win #5 on the year 69-45.
St. Paul(5-8) snaps a 4 game skid as well as defeats Central City for the first time in 7 tries dating back to 2020-21.
Jackson Wegner takes the Runza MVP honors while a slick Carter Hawley pass to Maddox Quinn earns the Dugout Grill Dang Good Play of the Game.
Wildcats return home Friday for Parent Night in another Lou Platte Matchup vs Ord on Country 96.
