Wildcats blank Centura; Howie stays in St. Paul

Senior night capped off a fun week to be a St. Paul Wildcat as the Wildcats blanked Howard County Nemesis Centura by a final score of 21-0 en route to their 2nd win of the season and keeping the "Howie" in St. Paul.

The Cats got on the board first late in the opening quarter as St. Paul went for it on 4th & 5 from the 5 where a senior connection of Alex Meinecke to Jadyn Thomsen gave the Wildcats an early 7-0 lead following the Christian Lemburg PAT.

The Wildcats were magnificent passing the ball in the first quarter and switched it up in the 2nd quarter to establish the run game as Mason Majerus on an option pitch from Meinecke scored from 26 yards out. Lemburgs PAT was good and the Cats maintained that 14 point lead through the remainder of the quarter to take a 14-0 lead at Half. 

Cory Valasek and company came out swinging in the 3rd paced by a Bradyn Hazen 29 yard run St. Paul found the endzone with 8:32 left in the 3rd as Mason Majerus capped off the final score of the night from 5 yards out. Christian Lemburg made it 21-0 to give the Wildcats their 2nd win of the season.

The Wildcat's defense paced by A Bradyn Hazen forced fumble, 2 Zandyn Weller Interceptions ,and 3 Christian Lemburg sacks gives St. Paul their first shutout in 1,491 days since the Cats blanked Gothenburg on the road 35-0 and their first home shutout in 2,212 days since blanking Wood River at home in 2019. The "Howie" Trophy will remain in St. Paul for the forseeable future as Centura will opt down to 8 man football next season

The Cats now 2-6 on the year will continue their rivalry tour next Friday to close out the regular season at GICC. Where the Crusaders will look to exact some revenge on St. Paul after the Wildcats knocked GICC out of playoff contention with a 48-33 home victory last year. Mason Majerus takes home Runza MVP with over 104 yards rushing and 2 Touchdowns while Senior Landyn Rubesh takes home the Dugout Grill Dang Good Play of the Game with a 4th down stop on Centura Runningback Trevin Grabowski.
