Wildcats capture home victories over Ravenna

Cold and frigid temperatures didn't stop the St. Paul Wildcats and Ravenna Bluejays in meeting up in a Lou Platte Conference matchup.
The Girls got off to a slow start in the first quarter outscoring Ravenna 8-5. The Cats trailed 5-1 early before scoring the next 14 points before Ravennas next basket. The 14-0 run helped the Cats take a 20-12 lead into the break. Head Coach Kevin Brandt whipped out a full court press on the BlueJays in the 2nd half that saw St. Paul dominate the 3rd quarter 12-3 taking 32-15 lead into the 3rd. The two teams split 24 points in the 4th quarter with St. Paul taking the 4th 14-10 enroute to a 46-25 victory.
The win moves St. Paul to 7-12 on the year tying last years win total for the Cats. They'll have at least two chances to get past 7 wins with Holdrege coming to town on Friday and Subdistricts starting the following Monday.

The Boys game saw St. Paul put together one of their better first halves of the season scoring 40 points in the first 16 minutes paced by Zandyn Weller and Joel Shafer. The Cats roared to an early 16-9 lead in the first before putting up a team high 24 points in the 2nd to take a 40-25 lead at the half. The first half proved to be the deciding factor as Ravenna outscored the Cats 17-16 in the 3rd and the Cats took the 4th quarter 10-9. The win gives the Boys an identical record to the Girls of 7-12.
Joel Shafer was red hot from start to finish with 17 points in the contest. He was your Runza MVP for the Boys.
