City of GI to Begin Towing Snowed-in Vehicles

Last week, the Grand Island Police Department started the process of ticketing (issuing tow notice violation cards) to those cars/vehicles parked on the residential side streets that have not moved since the snow ended last week and the wind is no longer blowing the snow around.  GIPD employees (Patrol, CSOs, & PSAs) placed 633 bright yellow warning/tow notice cards on these vehicles during the 48 hours from 6 am Tuesday Jan. 16th to 6 am Thursday Jan. 18th.   

Effective Tuesday Jan. 23rd starting at 6 am, GIPD employees (Patrol, CSOs, & PSAs) will start checking on those vehicles issued a warning/tow notice.  If the vehicle still has not obviously moved and is plowed in or snow covered, the vehicle will be issued a parking ticket for 72 hour parking ban and it will be towed to the Police Impound.  Before a vehicle is released from impound, owner must pay the parking ticket, tow bill, impound feed, storage fee and the vehicle must be properly registered with proof of insurance.  

GIPD reminds all Grand Island residents who have a vehicle parked on a city street or city owned parking lot, you are only allowed to park the vehicle in one spot for 72 hours before it must be moved.
