GIPD Make Arrest In Stolen Cemetery Urn Case


(Grand Island, NE) - On Thursday, 5/23/24, officers received a report of a burglary at the Grand Island Cemetery, 3168 W Stolley Park Rd. Two urns, each containing cremated human remains, and a decorative white floral vase were stolen from inside a mausoleum (estimated total value of $350).

On Monday, May 27th, 2024, GIPD Officers received information, which led to a vehicle that may have been involved with the burglary. When the vehicle was located, a search warrant was obtained for it. The search yielded evidence from the burglary and was connected to the owner of the vehicle. Officers interviewed Richard Boon. Boon confirmed he was in possession of the truck. After the interview, Richard Boon was arrested for Burglary, Prohibited Acts w/ Human Remains, and Criminal Mischief, less than $500.
