Highland North Subdivision Open House Set For Friday

City Of Grand Island

Grand Island, Neb. — In the tranquil outskirts of Grand Island's northwest area, a new community is emerging that promises to redefine modern living while embracing the timeless charm of rural America. ‘Highland North’ is set to unveil its unique concept at a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house on Friday, February 16, 2024, from 4:00-6:00 PM at 4201 Wilder Avenue.

Tucked away near the edge of town, Highland North isn't your typical subdivision. Boasting 2.5 acres of pristine native prairie grass and meticulously designed homes, this vibrant community offers a lifestyle experience like no other. Expansive walking trails, 5' front sidewalks, and securely lit streets ensure both safety and connectivity, while tree-lined avenues provide a picturesque backdrop for daily strolls.

However, Highland North is more than just a collection of houses; it's a tight-knit community where neighbors become family. With a diverse range of housing options including condos, row-houses and single-family properties, Highland North aims to make the dream of homeownership attainable by all. A commitment to energy efficiency, including zone heating and cooling systems, enhanced insulation and pre-installed infrastructure for solar panels, residents can enjoy reduced energy costs and a lighter environmental footprint.

Amos Anson's commitment to innovative housing is evident in his past successes. He has been nationally recognized for his work with Grand Island Area Habitat for Humanity, where his designs led the local Habitat to win the Best in Affordability Award in back-to-back years for the 2- and 3-bedroom designs created by Anson.

"With Habitat's designs, we were able to reduce cost by changing the layout to match readily available supplies while also boosting an easy design that can be safely constructed by volunteers," Anson said. "It is a challenge to keep new construction cost effective in this housing market, but we looked at not just the cost of construction, but also the long-term costs for the homeowner. With Highland North, we looked at energy-efficient HVAC, solar and electric car-ready infrastructure, edible landscaping, all combined with the ability to finish off the basement for added equity or passive income from a friend possibly renting out the basement. It's my goal to not just see people housed, but to have stable, long-term housing."

As Highland North prepares to open its doors to the public, anticipation is building for what promises to be a landmark event in the region's real estate landscape. Located off Independence Ave and just south of Highway 2, this new subdivision offers a convenient location with easy access to major thoroughfares.

Join Mayor Roger Steele and other city and community officials on February 16th, as we celebrate the launch of Highland North, where modern living meets rural charm, and the American dream of homeownership becomes a reality.
