My name is Dan Howard, and I am proud to announce my candidacy for Howard County Sheriff in the 2026 election.

I have dedicated my career to serving and protecting communities across Nebraska. My public service began in 2007 with the Department of Corrections, followed by Seward County Corrections in 2012. Since 2013, I have served in law enforcement as a Deputy, Police Officer, Sergeant, and I currently serve as the Chief of Police for the City of St. Paul. I also proudly served five years as a volunteer firefighter for the City of Ord, where I was elected Fire Police by my peers.

Howard County deserves strong, ethical leadership and balanced law enforcement services across all communities. I am committed to leading a Sheriff’s Office that is proactive, visible, professional, and accountable to every resident, no matter where they live in our county.

Throughout my career, I have been honored to receive: • A Life Saving Award (2013) for rescuing a disabled person from a burning vehicle
• A Certificate of Appreciation (2025) from Jacobs Ford for solving a $100,000+ theft case — recovering all stolen property and making an arrest within 10 hours

• Management Certification (2022) from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center.
If elected, I will lead with integrity, transparency, and a clear vision for the future of our Sheriff’s Office.

If you would like to support my campaign, donations can be made by contacting my wife or I directly.
Together, we can ensure Howard County remains safe, strong, and well served.
