Local Law Enforcement Agencies Receive Grants

The Grand Island Police Department was awarded $7,729.76 from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety to be part of the statewide “MAKE IT CLICK” high visibility enforcement campaign from May 20 – June 2, 2024.  Officers will be working approximately 100 hours of selective overtime enforcement to target vehicles with occupants not wearing seatbelts or children not in child passenger safety restraints.  This enforcement will help to reduce fatal and serious injuries from motor vehicle crashes.  Please buckle up, put your phone down and drive safely!

The Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office has approved the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office for a selective traffic enforcement grant. The grant allows the Sheriff’s Office to utilize extra deputies for participation in the National Make it Click Mobilization. The extra traffic enforcement will be conducted May 20 – June 2, 2024 at selected Buffalo County locations. Deputies will target all traffic violations with an emphasis on issuing citations for occupant restraint violations. The objective is to decrease unrestrained passenger vehicle occupant fatalities in all seating positions by 11 percent from 88 (5 year rolling average in 2018 – 2022) to 83, by December 31, 2024 and by 13.5 percent to 81 by December 31, 2026.
