Mayor Steele Assists in Resurfacing Efforts

Grand Island, Neb. — Heavy snow and bitter cold put road crews on ice for several weeks in Grand Island, but amidst their return this week they had an extra crew member for a day.

Grand Island Mayor Roger Steele slapped on a vest and helped crews patch up various portions of South Locust Street. Grand Island Street Superintendent Shannon Callahan said crews began efforts to patch up potholes and other cracks along South Locust St. Tuesday.

The City deploys a total of 22 crew members on a given day to repair the most-traveled thoroughfares, with each ‘crew’ featuring 4-5 members.

“It’s an honor to meet the men and women who make Grand Island a great place to live,” Mayor Steele said. “Being able to see what they do up close gives me a great appreciation for the work they do for the City.”
