New Grant Dollars to Impact Grand Island
Grand Island, Neb. — The Central Nebraska Growth Foundation (Growth Foundation), Grand Island Area Economic Development Corporation's 501(c)3 arm, has been awarded $750,000 from Nebraska Affordable Housing Trust Fund and is the first-ever award of its kind to be received in the Grand Island community.
To celebrate continued residential growth, Growth Foundation and Hoppe Development invite you to a groundbreaking celebration on Wednesday, June 5 at 11 a.m. It will be located at 1631 Apple St.
Nebraska Affordable Housing Trust Funds will be leveraged to build 15 new homes, eight of which will be reserved for residents at or below 120% AMI for 10 years, in Hoppe Development's Orchard Subdivision.
"The Grand Island Area Economic Development Corporation (GIAEDC) will remain focused on our core mission of recruiting and retaining primary, wealth-producing businesses in the Grand Island area,” said GIAEDC President Mary Berlie. "While we stay true to that mission, we know we must broaden our scope of work to meet community needs. This expanded scope includes providing resources to our developers to provide safe and attainable housing for all of our valued labor force and their families."
"Hoppe Development is excited about this endeavor with Central Nebraska Growth Foundation,” said Hoppe Development CEO Fred Hoppe. “Hoppe has a longstanding relationship with the City of Grand Island from the days our family owned a lumberyard, businesses and housing projects in the community. We believe in the city, and the administration and leadership has made it a model community for housing development which we will continue to be a presence in. This new partnership and investments from the city and other partners are evidence that Grand Island is a strong advocate for not only Hoppe Development, but also affordable housing."
The Nebraska Department of Economic Development received 70 applications requesting more than $40 million in assistance during the last application cycle. The partnership between the State of Nebraska's Department of Economic Development, Central Nebraska Growth Foundation and Hoppe Development is a proactive step towards addressing the critical housing issue. Through the utilization of the Nebraska Affordable Housing Trust Fund, we are making a substantial investment in Grand Island's future.
