Northwest Soccer Clubs Ready For District Final Matches

(Grand Island, NE) - The Northwest soccer teams will both be playing in a Class B district final match on Saturday, May 4th for the right to go to the state tournament in Omaha next week. A win punches their ticket, a loss, the season will come to an end. The Northwest girls with a 13-3 record will take on York for the fourth time this season and 2nd time this week. The Vikings defeated York on Tuesday for the sub-district championship game 3-0. Just by chance on how the power points were calculated up the two teams got matched up with one another for the district final match at Viking Field on Saturday starting at 11:00 am for the right to head to state. Northwest is 3-0 vs York this season with a regular season win in March 3-1 and a win in the Central Conference tournament over the Dukes 6-0. York comes into the match with a 12-6 record. The Duke's only state tournament appearances in school history were in back-to-back trips in 1998 and 1999. The Northwest girls have only been to state once, a trip in 2022. The Northwest boys will be on the road for their district final on Saturday as they travel to Bennington to take on the Badgers. The Vikings enter the match with a 8-8 record.  Northwest is coming into the the match as one of the wildcards after falling the sub-district final match with Hastings on Tuesday at Hastings College by a final score of 4-0. The Badgers have been on a roll this season with an unblemished record of 19-0 as they have only given up 11 goals this season and have 9 shutouts so far this season. Northwest is searching for its first trip to state since 2022. Bennington is looking to go back-to-back trips as they were the 2023 state runner-up from a year ago falling to Skutt Catholic in the championship match by a final score of 3-1. The first kick for Saturday's matchup from Bennington is set for 12:30 pm.
