Platte Institute Applauds Advancement of LB 16, Championing Workforce Growth and Opportunity in Nebraska

OMAHA, NE — Today marks a pivotal moment for workforce development in Nebraska as LB 16, a groundbreaking bill championed by the Platte Institute, overwhelmingly passes from general file. This legislation, spearheaded by Senator Danielle Conrad and supported by a diverse coalition of legislators, represents a significant step towards expanding workforce licensing reform in Nebraska.

LB 16 is designed to facilitate the recognition of professional licenses obtained outside of Nebraska and to provide a fair chance for individuals with discharged criminal records to pursue their professional aspirations.

Jim Vokal, Chief Executive Officer of the Platte Institute, emphasized the bill's importance, "LB 16 is more than legislation; it's throwing down the welcome mat for Nebraska and tacking our workforce shortages head on. It embodies our commitment to embracing skilled workers from across the nation and ensuring that past mistakes do not hinder future opportunities."

The passage of LB 16 would place Nebraska alongside other forward-thinking states that have already enacted similar legislation. It is a crucial step in welcoming skilled workers to Nebraska, thereby strengthening our communities and economy.

As LB 16 advances, the Platte Institute remains dedicated to advocating for policies that foster growth, and opportunity for all who wish to contribute to Nebraska's prosperity.
