Ricketts Comments on Democrats’ Refusal to Hold Mayorkas Impeachment Trial

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) condemned Senate Democrats’ refusal to hold an impeachment trial for the charges against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

“For 227 years, the Senate held a trial when the House presented impeachment articles. By refusing to do so now with Secretary Mayorkas, Senate Democrats have shamefully put politics over exercising the impeachment trial authority granted to the Senate in our Constitution.”

Last week, Ricketts joined 43 colleagues in calling on Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to hold a full impeachment trial. He also made similar comments while on his regular conference call with Nebraska media.
