WebMap to Help Residents Identify Water Service Lines
Grand Island, Neb. — As the push continues to replace lead service lines not only in Grand Island, but across the country, there’s an added resource now available for residents to determine what type of service material their homes have.
City of Grand Island water customers can now look up their address on a Water Service Line Inventory WebMap to determine if their water service material (based on current data) is lead, non-lead or unknown. If citizens discover their homes are serviced by lead pipes, they will see additional information including contact information and a link to the Lead Service Line Replacement brochure.
If local residents have additional questions or want to schedule an appointment for service material verification inside their home or business, they can contact the Utilities Engineering Division at (308) 385-5463, Ext. 2130 or by e-mail at lslprogram@giud.com.
Customers with lead or unknown water service lines will also receive a letter by mail within 30 days providing similar information. The Utilities Department will notify water customers by mail and a door hanger when discovery or replacement of the water service will occur. The Lead Service Line Replacement Program is expected to take approximately 10 years to complete.
